Fundamental research:
• ecosystem role of symbiotic organisms of hydrobionts;
• bacterioplankton and bacteriobenthos as the main components of freshwater ecosystems which are transforming streams of matter and energy;
• symbiocenosises of different levels under the conditions of global changes in aquatic ecosystems;
• development of principles and methodology for assessing the status of freshwater ecosystems and the quality of the water environment based on parasitological and microbiological indicators.
Applied research:
• monitoring of surface waters used for bathing in accordance with Directive 2006/7 / EC (DIRECTIVE 2006/7/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 15 February 2006 concerning the management of bathing water quality);
• parasitic situation of in different types of the water bodies;
• development of measures to prevent the emergence of epizootics diseases of economically valuable hydrobionts;
• development of measures to prevent the emergence of negative phenomena connected with parasitic organisms in the water bodies of different types.
The comprehensive approach to assess the sanitary and hydrobiological status of reservoirs of urbanized areas, which combines assessment of the safety of the aquatic environment by chemical and sanitary-epidemiological (parasitological) indicators and a modern environmental assessment using the methodology of the EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60 has been proposed.
The conceptual approaches to ecological-physiological interaction between symbionts and the environment, the result of which is their phenotypic variability; between hydrobionts-hosts and their symbiocenoses, which have certain structural characteristics - with the environment, the result of which is the change in the physiological and biochemical characteristics of an organism of hydrobionts have been formulated.
It is established that destabilizing effect on the structure of symbiocenoses of hydrobionts is realized by direct action on symbionts, which leads to changes in their number and species richness, as well as indirectly - due to changes in the host's metabolism and its relationship with symbionts.
The role of symbionts of aboriginal and invasive species of invertebrates and fishes in freshwater ecosystems of different types was investigated. The invasive species of symbionts, specific to the representatives of different taxonomic groups of molluscs and fish, were introduced to new habitats because of host ivasion. For the first time, new registrations of aboriginal symbionts species that use numerous populations of invasive species of mollusks and fish for the realization of their own life cycles have been observed.
The peculiarities of structural and functional alterations in the symbiocenoses of hydrobionts (molluscs and fish) under the influence of temperature increasing were established and a forecast of changes in the parasitological situation due to the influence of climatic changes has been made.
The morphology, ultrastructure, molecular phylogeny and biotic relations of unique amoeboid organisms isolated from the Mesozoic sediments of bentonite clays were investigated.
